RE:VISION BOARD OF DIRECTORS

Jim Chavez
Jim serves as the Executive Director of the Community College of Denver Foundation & Governmental Affairs working to develop resources to benefit CCD’s students, programs and faculty. Previously, Jim served as the Executive Director of the Latin American Educational Foundation, a Colorado non-profit providing college assistance and guidance to Colorado’s Latino students and their families.
Jim is a board member of the Denver Health and Hospital Authority and also serves as a Colorado Commissioner for the Western Interstate Commission on Higher Education. Jim has served on the board of directors for many other organizations, including the University of Northern Colorado, Denver Housing Authority, Iliff School of Theology, the Colorado Non-Profit Association, Clayton Early Learning Center, and Rocky Mountain Public Broadcasting Corporation.
He began his career as a certified public accountant with Ernst & Young. He is a graduate of Colorado State University.

Angeles Ortega, Treasurer
Angeles Ortega, MBA is a seasoned nonprofit executive, fundraiser, and community leader with more than 20 years of experience leading mission-driven organizations, advancing equity, and building cross-sector partnerships. She currently serves as Chief Executive Officer of Mi Casa Resource Center, where she provides strategic leadership in organizational planning, board relations, financial sustainability, resource development, and program impact. Known for her thoughtful and empathetic leadership style, Angeles has a strong track record of aligning community needs with effective strategies that drive measurable results.
Prior to her role at Mi Casa, Angeles served as Director of Advancement at the Denver Museum of Nature & Science, where she led a team responsible for $2–4 million in annual fundraising across individual and corporate portfolios. Her expertise spans major gifts, corporate sponsorships, donor stewardship, strategic communications, and data-informed decision-making. Earlier in her career, she served as Executive Director of the Latin American Coalition in Charlotte, North Carolina, overseeing multi-program operations, large-scale budgets, and impactful initiatives in workforce development, housing, immigration services, and civic engagement.
Angeles is bilingual in English and Spanish and has extensive experience in public service, having worked with the U.S. Census Bureau in outreach, and data dissemination roles across multi-state regions. She studied art and languages at the Universidad Autonoma de Queretaro and nonprofit management at the University of Nevada, Reno. Angeles holds an MBA from Queens University of Charlotte, and she serves on numerous national, state, and local boards and advisory councils.

Theresa Peña, Board Chair
Theresa Peña has an extensive career in the public and private sector. She retired in 2023 after working for Denver Public Schools as regional coordinator of outreach and engagement for the Food and Nutrition Services team for eight years. Prior to joining DPS Theresa worked with Hunger Free Colorado, the Colorado Children’s Campaign and the City of Denver. Theresa was elected to the Denver Public School Board of Education as an at-large representative in November 2003 and was reelected in November 2007 for a second four-year term. Before serving on the DPS Board Theresa worked for IBM and US WEST where she had a successful career in marketing, human resources, operations and finance.
Theresa is a Denver native. She is a graduate of Pomona College where she received a BA in sociology and Cornell University where she received her MBA with a concentration in finance and marketing. Theresa has two children, both graduates of Denver Public Schools, and her husband is a veterinary ophthalmologist. She currently serves on the Prosperity Denver Fund ReVision and UC Health Hospital Authority boards. Theresa is a former board member of the Denver Scholarship Foundation, the Public Education Business Coalition, the Denver Preschool Program, the Latino Community Foundation of Colorado, and the Mayor’s Latino Advisory Council.
